Born January 20, 1942, San Francisco, California. In 1967, Janet Nolan earned her B.A. in history from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. From 1967 to 1976 Nolan taught eighth grade American History as well as high school English. She then continued her education at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, Rhode Island, where she earned her M.A. in History in 1978. She received her Ph.
